Monotype Imaging's Fonts Are Everywhere
Our fonts are used everywhere, every day. Companies such as British Airways, Scandinavian Airlines and Barclays Bank have built unique brand identities through our custom fonts. Graphic designers have long considered the Monotype® and ITC® typeface libraries as industry staples.
Solutions For Printer Devices
We meet every font requirement for printer manufacturers, from conforming to the type specifications of HP and Adobe to rendering clear, readable text on control panel displays.
More than 80 percent of PCL® and PostScript® laser printers worldwide employ our technologies. Most office printers use our patented UFST® (Universal Font Scaling Technology) and MicroType® compression technologies. We stand alone in offering the use of original trademarked font names listed in the HP and Adobe font specifications.
Print Drivers: Ease of use and implementation characterize Monotype Imagings print drivers. Development kits are available for both PDL- and raster-based printers. Each kit includes source code for designing a graphical user interface that is common across different operating systems, tailored to particular printer devices or families of devices. Driver architecture includes a module for generating printed output and a core set of features for a variety of user-selectable functions such as booklet printing, chapter pages and watermarks. Monotype Imaging print drivers may also include our color technologies, which can be optimized to meet the requirements of every device.
Color: As an industry leader in the graphic arts market, Agfa-Gevaert has invested decades of research and development in the areas of color and screening. Monotype Imaging has customized these patented technologies for enabling office and personal printers to generate accurate and consistent, high-quality color. Weve developed advanced color, screening and profile-editing tools to simplify the integration process, smoothing the way for device manufacturers to speed products to market.
Solutions For Display Devices
Cell phones, PDAs, high-definition television sets, set-top boxes and other memory-constrained devices benefit from a range of products from our Text & Imaging Pipeline technology conduit. From input to output, we provide technologies that cover every part of the imaging process. Featured products include our iType® font engine based on TrueType® and OpenType® standards, and our WorldType® Layout Engine, a software library for composing, positioning and rendering multilingual text, including complex scripts. The Text & Imaging Pipeline allows manufacturers and developers to work with us as a single expert source to meet every text and imaging need.
High-Quality, High-Performance Type
Monotype Imaging fonts achieve optimal readability on any device that displays text, from low-resolution monitors to high-resolution color LCDs. Our ESQ (Enhanced Screen Quality) library of hand-tuned fonts features our Albany®, Cumberland® and Thorndale® families, fonts that are metrically equivalent to the Arial®, Courier and Times New Roman® fonts in the Microsoft® Windows® operating system.
Small in size, our stroke-based fonts allow manufacturers and developers to offer full access to East Asian character sets that typically contain thousands of characters. Our high-quality stroke fonts may also include Latin-based modules, enabling full-function features despite restrictions in memory or storage.
Type Development & Evolving Standards
We build font solutions that meet requirements for readability, size, language support, compatibility and government compliance, such as the FCCs mandate for closed captioning on digital TV systems in the United States, and the requirement to support the GB 18030 character set standard in the Peoples Republic of China. Monotype Imaging also provides font and text rendering solutions that conform to Japans ARIB (Association of Radio Industries and Businesses) data coding and transmission specification for digital broadcasting.
Monotype Imagings MicroType Express font compression technology has been adopted by MPEG-4 as part of its international standard for developing video, audio and interactive computer-animated graphics applications in a digitally compressed format.
Monotype Imaging is active in several industry organizations. We are members of the ICC (International Color Consortium), DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting Project), Unicode Consortium, MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group), OeBF (Open eBook Forum), Type Directors Club, ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale), AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) and SoTA (Society of Typographic Aficionados).
