CATT Fonts

Monotype Imaging's Compact Asian Technology for TrueType® (CATT™) fonts require a small memory footprint without sacrificing style and aesthetics. The characters used in East Asian scripts contain multiple instances of the same radicals or parts of characters. Unlike traditional TrueType fonts, CATT fonts store these radicals just once. This results in a font that matches the style of a traditional TrueType font, but with a much smaller file size. For instance, the CATT version of the CSong™ Simplified Chinese font is only 21% the size of its traditional TrueType counterpart – a size reduction of 7.7 MB. Compact Asian TrueType fonts are available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Monotype Imaging offers a wide selection of traditionally built East Asian TrueType fonts. These designs can be converted into Compact Asian TrueType fonts and licensed to OEMs and developers. Contact us for more information.
